Resumo
Esta pesquisa tem como propósito estudar a inserção e a dinâmica de expansão que caracterizaram a história da educação superior adventista no Brasil entre os anos de 1969 a 1999, apontando os fatores conjunturais que contribuíram para sua criação e desenvolvimento. Primeiramente, visa analisar os fenômenos que se manifestaram desde os primórdios da Igreja Adventista do Sétimo Dia (IASD), partindo de sua gênese nos Estados Unidos da América (EUA) até sua chegada e desenvolvimento no Brasil. Num segundo momento, analisa os fatores contextuais que caracterizaram a história da educação superior brasileira, indicando o momento em que as confissões protestantes instalaram suas primeiras instituições de nível superior no Brasil nas últimas décadas do século 19. Tal contexto objetiva lançar os fundamentos históricos para se obter uma melhor compreensão quanto ao momento em que a IASD abre seu primeiro curso superior no País. Em terceiro lugar, a pesquisa examina o papel e a importância que a educação adventista exerceu no processo de desenvolvimento da IASD a partir da criação do Colégio Internacional em Curitiba, em 1896, até a concretização da proposta de abertura do primeiro curso de nível superior, Enfermagem, em 1969, no Instituto Adventista de Ensino (IAE), a consolidação do Centro Universitário Adventista de São Paulo (UNASP) e o ato de instalação do primeiro reitor do Centro Universitário Adventista de São Paulo em 1999 e os respectivos desdobramentos de outros cursos superiores que foram abertos em diversas instituições denominacionais em territórios brasileiros. Finalmente, o trabalho efetua uma análise quanto aos componentes extra e intradenominacionais que atuaram como agentes facilitadores ou inibidores na consecução do ideal quanto à abertura da universidade adventista no Brasil.
Abstract
This research has the purpose to study the insertion and the expansion dinamycs that marked the history of SDA higher education in Brazil between 1969 to 1999, pointing the contextual factors that contributed to its creation and development. Firstly, it purports to analize the fenomena that happened since the beginnings of the SDA Church, starting from its genesis in the USA till its arrival and development in Brazil. In a second moment, it analizes the contextual factors that characterized the braziliam higher educational history, pointing the moment in which the protestant movements settled its first higher educational institutes in Brazil in the last decades of the 19th century. This context will cast the historical foundations in order to obtain a better understanding of the very moment in which the SDA Church opens its first college course in the Country. Thirdly, the research examine the role and the importance that the adventist education exercised in the developmental process of the SDA Church since the establishment of the Internacional College, Curitiba in 1896, till the fulfillment of the opening proposal of the first higher educational course, Nursing, in 1969, in the Brazil College, the consolidation of the Braziliam Unversity Center, the installation act of its first rector in 1999 and the unfolding development that happened in several denominational institutions throughout Brazil. Finally, the work examine the extra and intradenominational components that acted as facilitator or inibitor agents in the establishment of SDA University in Brazil.
