Resumo
As empresas estão, cada vez mais, necessitando de engenheiros qualificados para lidar com as rápidas mudanças do ambiente globalizado. Entretanto, verifica-se a existência de lacunas na formação desse profissional, em relação às competências e habilidades consideradas mais importantes para o desempenho de suas atividades no ambiente industrial. Os estudos realizados demonstraram que tais lacunas podem ser causadas pelo distanciamento entre o que se aprende nas universidades e o que se aplica na indústria. Este trabalho tem como objetivo identificar as deficiências em relação às competências e habilidades do engenheiro de produção na visão das empresas e, adicionalmente, mapear sua colocação nas empresas. Para tanto, foi realizada uma pesquisa survey em 103 empresas de médio e grande porte da indústria de transformação do estado de São Paulo. Os resultados mostraram que as empresas reconhecem a importância das competências e habilidades do engenheiro de produção para o ambiente industrial e, ao mesmo tempo, apontam deficiências do profissional em relação às mesmas. A partir desta pesquisa conclui-se que esforços devem ser realizados para uma melhor formação profissional do engenheiro de produção. Uma das iniciativas que vêm demonstrando contribuir é a parceria entre universidade e indústria. Acredita-se que esta parceria seja um ponto de partida para que as instituições de ensino e indústrias desenvolvam nos alunos competências e habilidades para participarem em um mercado altamente competitivo, que valoriza o ser flexível, criativo e capaz de encontrar soluções inovadoras.
Abstract
Companies have been increasingly in need of qualified engineers to deal with the fast changes within the globalized environment. However, gaps in such professionals’ training have been noticed, especially regarding the skills and abilities which are considered the most important ones for the execution of their activities in the industrial environment. The studies performed have shown that such gaps may be caused by the distance between what is learned at universities and what is actually applied within the industry. Such paper aims to identify the shortcomings regarding the skills and abilities of the production engineer according to the companies’ view and, in addition to it, to map their position in the companies. To this end, a survey has been applied in 103 medium and large companies from the processing industry, located in the state of São Paulo. Results have shown that companies recognize the importance of the production engineer’s skills and abilities within the industrial environment and, at the same time, they have pointed out shortcomings of such professionals regarding to them. From this survey, it has been concluded that efforts must be made in order to guarantee a better professional training to the production engineer. One of the initiatives which have been proved to contribute to it is the partnership between university and industry. It is believed that such partnership has been a starting point for the educational institutions and industries to develop in their students the skills and abilities which allow them to be part of a highly competitive market, which appreciates the professional who is flexible, creative and able to find groundbreaking solutions.
