Resumo
O presente estudo trata sobre os direitos da categoria dos trabalhadores ferroviários desde sua organização, com a implantação das ferrovias no Brasil, a história da construção das estradas de ferro pelo Brasil, os motivos que provocaram a criação das rotas e as empresas ferroviárias nos estados, em especial no estado de São
Paulo. A instalação do transporte ferroviário no Brasil deu origem à formação de uma nova categoria de trabalhadores – os ferroviários, trabalhadores que atuavam nas mais diferentes frentes de trabalho dada a extensão das atividades: construção, manutenção e condução das composições. Essas circunstâncias implicaram a formação de uma grande categoria que, em alguns anos, já se organizara de modo a reivindicar de seus empregadores melhores salários e condições de trabalho. Analisamos as relações de trabalho no universo ferroviário, que no início oferecia aos homens livres oportunidades de ascensão profissional. Os ferroviários formaram uma das poucas categorias a, já em fins do século XIX e início do século XX, conquistar a elaboração de legislação específica para a categoria e sua inserção na Consolidação das Leis do Trabalho (CLT). A estrada de ferro é considerada como a maior conquista da Revolução Industrial depois da máquina a vapor. Apesar de essa importância ser vista em diferentes contextos, destacamos, neste estudo, as conquistas dos direitos dos trabalhadores.
Abstract
The current study deals with the rights of the category of railway workers since its organization, with the implantation of the railroads in Brazil, the history of the construction of the railroads by Brazil, the reasons that caused the creation of the
routes and the railway companies in the states, especially in the state of São Paulo. The installation of rail transportation in Brazil gave rise to the formation of a new category of workers - the railway workers, who worked on the most different work fronts due to the extension of activities: construction, maintenance and conduction of the compositions. These circumstances led to the formation of a large category which, in a few years, had already organized itself to claim better wages and working conditions for its employers. We analyzed labor relations in the railway universe that at the outset offered opportunities for professional growth to free men. By the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20 th century, railways were one of the few categories to conquer the legislation for the category and its insertion in the Consolidation of Labor Laws (CLT). The railroad is considered as the greatest
achievement of the Industrial Revolution after the steam engine. Although this importance is seen in different contexts, we highlight, in this study, the achievements of workers' rights.
