Resumo
No Metodismo, Igreja e Educação são conceitos que se complementam. Este trabalho se propõe registrar o surgimento do Núcleo Universitário de Cultura como instrumento de realização dessa condição nas instituições metodistas de ensino. Registra as atividades culturais realizadas entre 1970 a 1985 na Universidade Metodista de Piracicaba, e sua importância no campo educacional e de formação acadêmica. O NUC nasce a partir de um contexto. Fez-se necessária uma pesquisa sobre o Metodismo Brasileiro desde seu surgimento, através da obra missionária norte-americana iniciada por metodistas do Sul dos EUA, e o fenômeno da aculturação. Nosso trabalho provoca a reflexão sobre a caminhada do Metodismo e sua vocação educacional. Analisa historicamente os conflitos, e a conseqüente assimilação cultural havida do protestantismo missionário pelo brasileiro. Detecta a contradição entre a mentalidade da elite metodista brasileira e a teologia latino americana. Identifica a UNIMEP como campo propício para a construção de um metodismo comprometido com a práxis cristã revolucionária, e o NUC como instrumento concreto dessa filosofia.
Abstract
In the Methodism, Church and Education are concepts that are complements. This research registers the sprout of the University Nucleus of Culture as an instrument of accomplishment of its purpose in the Methodist institutions of education. It registers the cultural activities carried through between 1970 and 1985 on the Methodist University of Piracicaba, and its importance in the educational field and on academic formation as well. The NUC born from a context. A research became necessary on the Brazilian Methodism since its beginning, through the missions of North American missionaries from the South of U.S.A., and the phenomenon of the adaptation on a new culture. This research would like to bring a reflection on the path walked by the Methodism and its educational vocation. It also historically analyzes the conflicts, and the consequent cultural assimilation of the Brazilian Methodism from the missionary Methodism. It detects the contradiction between the mentality of the Brazilian Methodist elite and the American Latin theology. It identifies the UNIMEP as propitious field for the construction of a Methodism compromised to the praxis Christian revolutionary, and the NUC as a concrete instrument of this philosophy.
