Resumo
O presente trabalho decorre da hipótese de que as Diretrizes para a Educação na Igreja Metodista - DEIM apresentam aproximações com a educação libertadora preconizada pelo educador Paulo Freire. Para a realização da pesquisa, é feito um levantamento dos documentos que antecederam a aprovação do DEIM, bem como assinalado o contexto onde estes documentos foram gestados. Destacam-se destes documentos aspectos fundantes da filosofia educacional metodista que vai se formando com a busca de uma igreja que se faça presente no contexto social e cuja ação educacional responda aos desafios da sociedade. São indicados os conceitos e concepções que dão o contorno da missão da Igreja Metodista e da educação como uma das ações que visam o cumprimento da sua missão. Busca-se, no que concerne à educação libertadora em Paulo Freire, os aspectos fundamentais de sua pedagogia, bem como um breve histórico do contexto onde se desenvolveu a chamada Pedagogia do Oprimido e os desdobramentos desta em outros escritos do referido educador. Ao elencar aspectos fundamentais da educação libertadora freireana destacam-se chaves que serão utilizadas para a leitura do documento da Igreja Metodista intitulado Diretrizes para a Educação na Igreja Metodista, com o objetivo de verificar se há aproximações entre as duas filosofias educacionais. Constata-se que há aproximações da educação libertadora na perspectiva de Paulo Freire na elaboração das diretrizes educacionais da Igreja Metodista.
Abstract
The present study derives from the hypotheses that the “Guidelines for Education at the Methodist Church” (Diretrizes para a Educação na Igreja Metodista – DEIM) present approaches with the education for liberty professed by educator Paulo Freire. For the realization of the research, it was collected the documents that preceded the approval of the DEIM and also considered the context where these documents were nourished. It was detached from this documents the founding aspects of the Methodist educational philosophy that were formed along the search of a church that makes itself present in the social context and which educational action is capable of facing the challenges of society. It was signalized the concepts and conceptions that give the shape of the mission of the Methodist Church and of education as one of the actions that is part of the fulfillment of its mission. In regard of the education for liberty in Paulo Freire, it was searched the fundamental aspects of his pedagogy, and presented a brief description of the context where it was developed the Pedagogy of the Oppressed, together with its unfolding in other writings of the mentioned author. Of the discussion of the fundamental aspects of Freire’s education for liberty it is detached assembling keys that will be used in the reading of the document of the Methodist Church called Guidelines for Education at the Methodist Church, with the purpose of verifying if exist proximities between the two educational philosophies. It was verified that in fact there are proximities of the education for liberty in Paulo Freire’s perspectives in the elaboration of the educational guidelines of the Methodist Church.
