Resumo
Este trabalho analisou o percurso educacional e religioso de Júlio Ribeiro num complexo momento de transição do Brasil na virada do século XIX para o XX. Ele foi protagonista de diversas ações marcadas pela sua identificação com a modernidade, pelo incentivo à liberdade e pela valorização da expressão individual. A pesquisa abordou o seu contexto formativo tratando de (re)compor os primeiros vinte anos de sua existência, ou seja, sua infância, adolescência e juventude, analisando sua trajetória inicial em Sabará e culminando na Corte no conturbado panorama político causado pela Guerra com o Paraguai. Em sua fase religiosa caminhou pelas trilhas do catolicismo e principalmente o protestantismo presbiteriano, segmento religioso que lhe abriu possibilidades efetivas de construção de uma carreira progressiva, logo depois, desprezada por assumir a condição de ateu. Como professor, atuou no Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo e interior, utilizando-se de métodos pedagógicos inovadores. Como crítico da educação, endureceu a respeito do ensino cientifico e clássico ministrado no Brasil imperial. Na condição de “intelectual” foi severamente criticado de ser um plagiador filosófico e literário. O método utilizado nesta pesquisa foi o histórico-crítico.
Abstract
This study examined the route educational and religious of Julio Ribeiro in a complex time of transition in Brazil at the turn of the nineteenth century to the twentieth century. He has starred in several actions marked by its identification with modernity, encouraging the appreciation of freedom and individual expression. The study addressed the formative context of dealing with (re)compose the first twenty years of its existence, namely childhood, adolescence and youth, analyzing its initial trajectory in Sabara and culminating in the Rio de Janeiro in the troubled political landscape caused by the war with Paraguay. In his religious phase walked the trails of Catholicism and Protestantism mainly Presbyterian, religious segment that opened real possibilities of building a progressive career soon after, neglected by assuming the status of an atheist. As a teacher, he worked in Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and inland using innovative teaching methods. As a critic of education, hardened about science teaching and taught in the classic imperial Brazil. As "intellectual" was severely criticized of being a plagiarist philosophical and literary. The research method was the historical-critical.
