Resumo
Esta tese trata do importante papel assumido pela professora belga Maria Rennotte, na organização e consolidação do Colégio Piracicabano. Contratada discretamente para dar aulas de francês, Maria Rennotte chegou a Piracicaba no início da implantação da instituição e, progressivamente, conquistou seu espaço, assumiu e coordenou a introdução de inúmeros cursos pioneiros e foi responsável por diversas iniciativas que propiciaram visibilidade e sucesso ao colégio. Além de sua intensa atuação docente ministrando aulas de francês, música, literatura, química, física, astronomia, biologia, entre outras, foi eficiente na função de assistente e coordenadora pedagógica e assumiu o papel fundamental de ser a porta-voz da instituição na sociedade piracicabana. Identificada plenamente com as preocupações sociais do metodismo, ela assumiu o papel de membro da Igreja Metodista a partir de uma perspectiva mais ampla, sem o viés proselitista que caracterizava as missionárias/educadoras e com maior espaço de interlocução com a elite liberal da época, que estava interessada apenas na educação trazida pelos protestantes.
Abstract
This thesis is about the important role of Belgian teacher Marie Rennotte, organization and consolidation of the Colégio Piracicabano. Quietly hired to teach french, Marie Rennotte Piracicaba reached in the early deployment of the institution and gradually claimed their share, took over and led the introduction of several courses and was responsible for pioneering several initiatives that provided visibility and success in college. Besides her intense performance teacher teaching classes in French, music, literature, chemistry, physics, astronomy, biology, among others, was effective in the role of assistant and educational coordinator and took over the role of being the spokesperson of the institution in Piracicaba society. Fully identified with the social concerns of Methodism, she assumed the role as a member of the Methodist Church from a broader perspective, without bias that characterized the proselytizing missionaries / teachers and more space for dialogue with the liberal elite of the time, that was interested only in education brought by Protestants.
