O ENSINO DA MATEMÁTICA NO BRASIL: ANÁLISE DOS PROGRAMAS DE ENSINO DO COLÉGIO PEDRO II (1837 A 1931)

Resumo
A presente pesquisa, de natureza descritivo-interpretativa, que guarda, também, uma perspectiva histórica, está vinculada à Linha de Pesquisa História e Filosófia da Educação no Programa de Pós Graduação, Doutorado em Educação da Universidade Metodista de Piracicaba-SP. Teve por objetivo verificar o ensino da Matemática Elementar vivenciada no Colégio Pedro II, no período de 1837 a 1931, pela análise de documentos e da literatura pertinente. Buscou-se analisar as concepções de Matemática (estruturas sintáticas e substantivas) pelo estudo dos programas de Matemática Elementar, praticados no Colégio Pedro II, na época indicada. Como resultado, obteve-se que o Colégio Pedro II foi o primeiro estabelecimento de ensino secundário do país e contribuiu para o estabelecimento da organicidade do ensino secundário brasileiro; correspondeu às expectativas dos segmentos sociais de elite da época e participou de um processo social mais amplo, integrado às peculiaridades da sociedade vigente; o ensino centrava-se no professor e era um processo elitista, enciclopedista, memorista com fundamento no trabalho individual do aluno; o ensino da Matemática, no Colégio Pedro II, percorreu longo caminho, até conseguir consideração de suas várias áreas e modernizar seus conteúdos e metodologia de ensino. Verificou-se que houve, durante todo o processo, a predominância da tendência sintática em que a linguagem simbólica era valorizada; no final do segundo reinado, começa a se esboçar, no ensino da Matemática, a tendência semântica que enfatiza o significado dos conceitos.
Abstract
This research, a descriptive and interpretative, which also keep a historical perspective, is linked to the Research Line History and Philosophy of Education in Graduate Program, Ph.D. in Education at Methodist University of Piracicaba-SP. Aimed at assessing the teaching of Elementary Mathematics lived in the Colégio Pedro II during the period 1837 to 1931, analysis of documents and literature. We attempted to analyze the concepts of mathematics (substantive and syntactic structures) by the study of applied elementary mathematics programs in Colégio Pedro II at the time indicated. As a result it was found that the Colégio Pedro II was the first secondary school in the country and contributed to establishing the organic nature of secondary education in Brazil; to expectations of the social elite segment of the time, and participated in a broader social process integrated to the peculiarities of existing society, the education was focused on the teacher and was an elitist process, encyclopedic, memoirist based on individual work of students, the teaching of mathematics at the Colégio Pedro II traveled long road to get consideration of their various areas and modernize its contents and teaching methodology. It was found that there was during the whole process, the predominant trend in which the syntactic symbolic language was valued, at the end of the second reign begins to take shape, in mathematics education, a trend that emphasizes the semantic meaning of concepts
