Resumo
Os jesuítas, sempre polêmicos e atuais, envoltos entre lendas e mitos, verdades e mentiras, poder e glória, fizeram parte da educação brasileira por mais de dois séculos. Concomitantemente foram se mostrando exímios administradores, quer pela necessidade de sobrevivência da Ordem, quer pelas habilidades educacionais
e culturais que estavam enraízados.
Criados dentro de uma severa disciplina e obediência total à Igreja Católica, foram os responsáveis não só pela evangelização dos gentios como pelo trabalho de colonização e expansão das terras portuguesas.
Foi importante, portanto, embrenhar nas origens do Brasil colônia, começando por Portugal, sua estrutura sócio-política e sua religiosidade; seu mercantilismo, dentro dele as grandes navegações; a origem da Companhia de Jesus, cerne de todo estudo; a vinda para o Brasil da Ordem e finalmente a capacidade de enfrentar as
dificuldades pertinentes à época através da administração de seus bens, diante dos objetivos a serem desenvolvidos, por incumbência direta da Coroa portuguesa. Este estudo fez uma análise das atividades jesuíticas em terras brasileiras, no tocante aos bens materiais que a Companhia de Jesus dispunha diante de si como forma de sustentáculo para o desenvolvimento de sua atividade humana em prol de uma atividade divina: a grande diversificação de negócios e empreendimentos, a
forma de administração e a utilização desses recursos como fonte principal de subsistência.
Abstract
The Jesuits, who were always updated and polemic and involved among myths and legends, truths and lies, power and glory, were part of Brazilian education for more than two centuries. Concomitantly they were proven to be skilled administrators, either by the Order survival needs, or by the educational and cultural skills in which
they were based on. Created within a strict discipline and complete obedience to the Catholic Church they were responsible not only for the gentiles evangelization as well as for the colonization work and the Portuguese lands expansion. It was therefore important to permeate into the origins of colonial Brazil, starting with Portugal, their socio-political structure and religiosity, their mercantilism and inside it,
their great voyages; the origin of Jesus Society, which is the core of the whole study; the forthcoming of the Order to Brazil and finally, the ability to face difficulties within those times, though their goods administration facing the objectives to be developed by the Portuguese Crown direct incumbency. This study performed an analysis of the Jesuit activities in Brazilian territory, concerning the goods the Jesus Society had before them as a way of upholding human development activity on the behalf of a divine activity: businesses and ventures diverse range, administration style and the use of those goods as the main livelihood resource.
